Jekyll Businesses Support the Lions Club

The Jekyll Island Business Association (JIBA) presented the Jekyll Island Lions Club with a $500 donation in support of its American flag display program.  Flying the flags on federal holidays is one of the Club’s oldest traditions.  When it began years ago, it was a fundraiser; a business would give the Club a small annual donation and the Club would fly a flag in front of it. With subsequent island business changes and moves, the Club stopped soliciting donations and just displayed the flags as a matter of course.  Over time, the flags and poles started to require maintenance and the program was ripe for review.

About a year ago, the Lions decided to reinvigorate the flag display program.  They completed an inventory of the flags and poles used for the display.  Those flags in poor condition were replaced and broken pole hardware was fixed. Then, when the new Beach Village shopping area opened, the Lions received permission to expand the flag display from the original Historic District footprint to include it.

In light of these improvements, the Lions felt confident enough to approach JIBA to solicit a charity donation.  JIBA was honored to have been asked and gave the Lions $500.  The Club appreciates the gift and the show of support from the local business community!
